An overview of this once busy fishing village
Staithes is located on the A174 approx. 10 miles south of Saltburn-by-the-sea
and approx. 10 miles north of Whitby. Because of very restricted parking
down in the village, there is a large car park at the top of the bank
for both visitors and residents.
After parking your car, what better than a nice cuppa in the
Tea Shop Cafe at the top of the bank.
There are two ways of getting down to the harbour.
One is walking down this steep bank...
The other is walking along a path and then down these steps. For me, the road is the
easiest and the safest. If you have anyone in the car that isn't too good at walking
up or down hills, you could always drop them off at the bottom and then go and
park your car on the car park at the top.

On the way down, you pass this old
building which is now the Captain Cook
and Staithes Heritage centre.

At the bottom of the high street, right on the sea wall
is the famous Cod & Lobster.

The Sea Drift cafe is near the Cod & Lobster on the
sea front. The food here is wonderful !
